Route plan A

There is still room to register for this interesting route close to home. The weather forecast looks stellar! Come view the iconic Victoria shoreline from the water... stunning homes, Victoria Golf Club (oldest in Canada and 2nd oldest in NA), rugged shore with frequent seal and sea lion visits.

Paddlers should be able to maintain a 3 knot pace over the course of the 10nm route and have experience with current changes and wind generated waves.

We will launch from Cadboro Bay where there are toilet facilities and plenty of parking. The route may be modified on Saturday or Sunday if wind forecasts change. It's blowing hard now but the forecast for Sunday is promising. Currently wind forecasts favour a route noodling along the Oak Bay shoreline, rounding Gonzales Pt and passing through Enterprise Channel to McNeil Bay and onward to a lunch stop in Gonzales Bay (where there are also washrooms). If conditions permit, we will have the option of going around Trial Island. We will paddle south with the slight ebb flow (max 1.4 Kt) and after lunch, return with the flood (max. 1.2 Kt).

Route plan B

If winds pick up-especially from the southwest, route options include stopping for lunch at Gonzales Pt or Oak Bay Marina. Or plan C could include paddling north around Cadboro Pt to Finnerty Bay for lunch.

Safety reminders

Always dress for the possibility of immersion and please bring a drybag containing a spare change of clothes. Please bring a lunch or snacks and sufficient beverage to keep you hydrated, as well as a thermos of something warm. Your paddle leader will introduce the plan and make sure everyone is comfortable with the requirements. Please stay off the water until the group is ready. If you have a VHF radio please bring it with you.
